VELVET’S DISTINCTIVE AND LAVISH TEXTURE IS LENDING A HINT OF ROYALTY TO EVERYONE WHO WEARS IT THIS SEASON.
It’s one of those trends we can’t decide if we’re over until we see it on the runway in an unforeseen manner that strikes a chord in our heart saying, “I need that look.” Fortunately for us, designers are giving us many ways to channel richness this season whether it is in moderation or a heap of opulence.
The dense fabric, flourished first in Italy, was only worn by the wealthiest in the land. Time and money were deeply invested in the velvet industry to create not only clothing but luxury furniture and upholstery. Fast-forward from velvet’s golden period during the Renaissance to reaching its ultimate glamour phase in the 70s and here we are at the pinnacle of its experimentation. Today you can walk downtown looking stylish and being comfortable wearing a velvet jumpsuit similar to the one seen in the Off-White Pre-Fall collection for 2017.
Pre-Fall gives us a taste of the innovation being curated for the Fall/Winter season but when we see the same trend hit the Haute Couture runways, you know it’s here to stay. Check out the looks below for inspiration on how to add velvet to your personal wardrobe now.
